Please note: Outing duration and distraction tolerance will vary for each dog. Always be prepared to leave. Do not progress until the dog is successful at any given point
Goal: Increasing the duration of working with mild distractions (dropping cookies, surprise touches, etc).
During Module 3 Outings:
- If you are unfamiliar with the dog, be sure to establish a relationship before going in public. This time frame should be about a week.
- Start with shorter outings and continue to make them longer in duration as they mature
- Focus on quality over quantity. Each experience should be neutral or positive
- Go to places that are moderately noisy and crowded
Exposure focus: Places that are moderately noisy and busy for longer periods of time
Training focus:
- Encourage the dog to eliminate when and where is convenient near the outing location.
- Responding to cues even with distractions. Ideally, most distractions should be controlled set-ups
Cues to Practice:
- Sit
- Down
- Nudge
- Get busy
- Okay
- Under
- Let’s go
- Wait
- Up - into car

Behavior focus: Dogs at this age should be able to successfully wear a head collar such as a gentle leader or halti as a tool for loose-leash walking.
- Use lots of treats to help encourage it as a positive tool
- Work on loose-leash walking in the head collar
Training Outings: Make sure to go to at least 1-2 in each category. Continue chaining the outings up to 3 back to back
- Our dogs are not allowed to go to:
- All-day excursions: State Fairs, Amusement Parks, Weddings, etc
- Zoos and Dog Parks
NOTE: These are Training Outings. Please refrain from shopping until Module 4 as ALL focus should be on the dog. You may need to leave if the dog is stressed.
